Art and Design

At Concordia, all students in Years 7 and 8 study Visual Art for one trimester, developing skills in visual literacy and a range of 2D and 3D techniques and materials. In Year 9 and 10 students can elect to study one or two semesters of Visual Art, with the option of studying Design as a standalone subject in Year 10. Year 11 and 12 students study SACE Visual Art or Visual Art Design, and this year had the option of studying Visual Art as part of the IB Diploma Programme.

Visual Art engages students in conceptual, practical, analytical and contextual aspects of creative human endeavour. It emphasises visual thinking and investigation and the ability to develop ideas and concepts, refine skills and produce imaginative solutions. In Visual Arts students express ideas through practical work using a variety of media leading to resolved pieces. Students have opportunities to research, understand and reflect upon visual art works in their cultural and historical contexts. The broad area of Art includes both artistic and crafting methods and outcomes, including the development of ideas, research, analysis and experimentation with media and techniques, resolution and production.
